Interested in the upcoming .DOCTOR domain extension launching November 2nd, but not sure if you’re eligible to get one? Here’s a prescription for some good news.
Previously, we had been informed that .DOCTOR would be available exclusively to individuals holding the title of “doctor,” like physicians, veterinarians, and Ph.D.s.
However, the .DOCTOR registry Donuts has recently clarified on their blog that no such registration restrictions will apply for the .DOCTOR extension.
In other words, .DOCTOR domains will be available to everyone, like any other unrestricted gTLD.
If you have any binding .DOCTOR domain pre-orders with UD already, this news does not affect your pre-order in any way, and you do not have to take any action.
Despite having no special restrictions at the time of registration, Donuts and United Domains remains committed to ensuring .DOCTOR domains are used responsibly. Donuts’ post affirms the registry’s commitment to being “on guard against inappropriate or dangerous uses of .DOCTOR,” adding that any registrant who uses a .DOCTOR domain for a website on which they claim to be a licensed medical professional “should be able to demonstrate upon request that in fact they hold such a license.”
.DOCTOR domain names are ideal for medical professionals seeking a short, available, easy-to-remember address that establishes their relevance and trustworthiness to potential patients.
If you’re not in the medical field but “doctor” still fits your brand or business name, you also have a new domain extension in your vast naming arsenal.
You can pre-order your .DOCTOR domain now, or if you’re more patient (see what we did there?) you can try registering once .DOCTOR launches on November 2nd.
Just remember, availability is first come, first served, so don’t wait too long!
